eBay Fees Calculator Australia

Turn an eBay.com.au order into a seller ledger: buyer-paid amount, final value fee, international and promoted-listing allowances, postage label, product cost and estimated contribution. Start with a current public preset or enter the exact fee structure shown for your account and category.

Price an order under the right seller path

Only an amount eBay includes in total sale amount.
The fixed fee applies per order, not automatically per item.

Australia’s 2026 fee paths are not interchangeable

eBay’s Australian help pages now describe free selling for eligible Australia-based sellers without a Pro plan whose total eBay sales over the relevant preceding twelve-month measurement are $25,000 or less. Those sellers generally do not pay a transaction final value fee, although optional upgrades, international sales fees, advertising, labels and other selling costs can still apply.

A seller above the annual-sales threshold may be moved to Pro Starter. Pro Starter has no monthly subscription charge, but transaction fees apply. The public Pro fee page checked for this module shows a common Pro Starter structure of 13.4% of the total sale amount up to $4,000 per item, 2.5% above $4,000 and $0.30 per order, inclusive of Australian GST. Categories and special listing types can differ.

Pro Basic, Featured and Anchor plans have subscription charges and category-tier rates. Their displayed percentages and fixed charges must be copied carefully, including whether the table is GST-inclusive. The custom path exists because a single “standard eBay rate” cannot safely represent every seller, category and plan.

Transition check: fee terms can depend on whether eBay has notified the account that free selling or a Pro plan is active. Use the terms applying when the listing goes live or renews, not only a generic article remembered from an earlier year.

How the final value fee base is built

For the public transaction-fee structure, eBay describes total sale amount per item as item price plus postage and handling and applicable tax or other included amounts. The fixed component is charged per order. If the same buyer purchases several items at checkout using the same delivery method, the number of items can therefore exceed the number of fixed-fee orders.

Ledger lineCalculationWhat to verify
Per-item fee baseItem price + buyer postage + entered tax/other included amountActual checkout and category terms
Variable final value feeFirst tier times first rate, plus excess times second rateThreshold is tested for each equal item
Fixed final value feeEntered fixed fee times ordersOrder definition and GST display
International/ad allowanceBuyer total times entered percentageActual fee basis can differ by product
ContributionItem/postage revenue minus all entered fees and costsBefore income tax and unentered overhead

The calculator treats the tax/other field as part of the fee base but not as seller revenue. That is a cautious pricing convention for an amount collected or dealt with separately. Reconcile it to the order detail rather than assuming every Australian sale displays tax as a separate buyer line.

“Free selling” does not mean zero selling cost

The free preset sets only the variable and fixed final value fee to zero. It leaves international, promoted listing, upgrade, label, subscription and product-cost inputs available. eBay notes that eligible free sellers will generally have to buy labels on eBay to send eligible items. The economic postage cost still exists even when the buyer pays a postage amount.

Free-selling eligibility is an account status, not a checkbox a calculator can determine. The current help page describes Australian registration, selling without a Pro plan and total sales of no more than $25,000 in the measured preceding period. The measurement includes sales across eBay sites and uses total sale amounts. Check the performance area and notices before pricing inventory.

Optional services remain choices. A promoted listing charge may be attributed under campaign rules rather than simply to every sale. Enter an ad percentage only for a scenario where the sale is attributable and the selected strategy charges it. Listing upgrades can be non-refundable even if an item does not sell, so a batch allocation may be more useful than pretending each successful order caused the cost.

Why the $4,000 tier is applied per item

Under the public most-category example, the lower 2.5% rate applies only to the portion of an individual item’s total sale amount above $4,000. It is not a monthly revenue tier. Two items at $3,000 each do not create one $6,000 item for this calculation; each remains entirely in the first tier.

The calculator assumes every item in the batch has equal price, postage and included tax. If one order contains mixed items, calculate each price group separately and combine the results. Keep the true number of orders so the fixed fee is not multiplied incorrectly.

Special categories such as services, non-fungible tokens and vehicle listings have different structures. Some Pro plans also apply category tier percentages. Use custom only when you have the correct percentage, threshold, above-threshold rate and fixed fee. A familiar 13.4% figure is not a substitute for reading the category table.

Contribution is not accounting profit or payout

The estimated contribution subtracts entered platform fees, ad allowance, upgrades, allocated monthly cost, postage labels and product or fulfilment cost from item and postage revenue. It does not include wages, storage, returns, refunds, payment disputes, insurance, packaging not entered, business tax, GST on the underlying sale or inventory write-downs.

The actual payout can also differ from this economic view. eBay deducts fees and other selling costs from available and processing funds; a payout can combine multiple orders, refunds and adjustments. Reconcile Seller Hub order detail and financial statements rather than treating one bank deposit as one sale.

If the contribution is negative, change one assumption at a time. Compare a realistic price increase, buyer postage, product cost, ad use and Pro plan. Do not hide postage expense by looking only at the platform fee percentage. For low-value items, the fixed order component can be material; for high-value items, the above-threshold tier can reduce the effective final value percentage.

GST records and income-tax records require the underlying facts

Current Australian fee pages specify whether displayed eBay fees include GST. Preserve the invoice or financial statement because a calculator cannot decide whether a business may claim a GST credit. Registration, creditable purpose and valid tax records matter. Do not add another 10% to a fee already displayed as GST-inclusive.

Seller revenue can be assessable income when the activity is a business, while private disposal of personal items can have different consequences. High sales volume, regularity, commercial purpose and the nature of the goods matter. The $25,000 eBay plan threshold is a platform eligibility rule; it is not the GST registration turnover threshold and not an income-tax exemption.

Record gross sales, postage charged, refunds, eBay fees, advertising, labels, inventory and other costs separately. That preserves a usable audit trail even when eBay nets amounts before payout. Ask a registered tax agent about the classification of the activity and GST treatment.

eBay fee questions for Australian sellers

Is selling on eBay Australia free in 2026?

Eligible Australia-based sellers without a Pro plan and within eBay’s measured sales threshold can use free selling, but labels, international fees, ads, upgrades and other costs may remain.

What happens above $25,000 of eBay sales?

The current help page says an Australia-based seller may be notified and moved to Pro Starter under the platform’s measurement process. Verify the account notice and effective date.

Does eBay charge its percentage on postage?

The public final value fee base includes postage and handling in total sale amount. Enter buyer-paid postage even if it merely recovers label cost.

Is the $0.30 fee charged per item?

The cited structure describes a fixed charge per order. Enter separate item and order counts when several equal items share one checkout order.

Does this include promoted listings?

Only the percentage allowance you enter. Real attribution, campaign strategy and fee basis must be checked in the advertising terms and order detail.

Can I use the result as taxable profit?

No. It is a sales contribution worksheet before unentered overhead, income tax and transaction-specific GST treatment.
