- Have reached State Pension age (currently 66 for both men and women)
- Have a weekly income below the minimum amount set by the government
- Have less than £10,000 in savings (or higher amounts with reduced entitlement)
Additional Amounts
You may receive extra Pension Credit if you have additional responsibilities or costs:

| Carer Addition | £45.60 per person |
| Housing Costs | Variable based on eligible costs |
Calculation Methodology
The Pension Credit calculation follows a structured approach:
- Your total weekly income is calculated from all sources including State Pension, private pensions, and earnings
- Savings above £10,000 are converted to notional income at a rate of £1 per week for every £500
- The appropriate minimum income guarantee is determined based on whether you claim as single or couple
- Additional amounts are added for severe disability, caring responsibilities, or housing costs
- Guarantee Credit is calculated as the difference between your total income and the minimum guarantee
- Savings Credit is calculated separately for those who reached State Pension age before 6 April 2016
